Rocco Forte Hotels is to open a five-star hotel
The Augustine
in the heart of the
Czech Republic capital, in the immediate neighbourhood of the famous
Prague Castle. The 101-room property will be created from a complex of five buildings, most of which are historical landmarks. The largest and the most important structure is
St. Thomas Monastery, which dates back to the 13th century.
Rocco Forte Hotels is working on
The Augustine Prague Hotel with locally-based architect
Martin Kotik (a partner in
Omicron-K Architects Studio), and
RDD (London-based interior designers, who have also been assisting on
Brown's Hotel in London). The interiors will be overseen by
Olga Polizzi, Rocco Forte Hotels' Director of Design, and will very much reflect the hotel's location.
The monastery building will provide the hotel with a picturesque setting of established courtyards and elegant garden squares, while retaining certain areas for the practicing Augustine monks. Key historic features such as cloistered terraces, wooden ceilings, wine vaults and stone arches will be incorporated into the hotel design. New additions will include a tranquil courtyard entrance, accessible by car from Letenska Street, and a glassed-in courtyard, which will become the hotel's main restaurant complete with 2 protected trees.
The Augustine Hotel Rooms
The average guest-room size is around 45 square meters. The hotel will have 30 % suites as junior suites, executive suites or de-luxe suites, a honeymoon suite and a presidential suite of almost 170 square meters!
Rooms will enjoy views onto the courtyards, the neighbouring St. Thomas Church and the very famous
Prague Castle. Key historic features such as hand-painted wooden ceilings, an early 16th century beer cellar and stone arches will be incorporated into the hotel design.
Dining The Augustine Hotel Prague will offer a 90-seat restaurant designed in one of the spectacular cloister gardens. A bar with frescoed ceilings will occupy the monastery's barrel-vaulted double-height hall with views on to one of the gardens and outside seating on the cloister terrace in summer. A second bar-cum-restaurant will also be available and will offer 130 covers.
Meetings A 150 square meters function room, with own lobby will be located in a double height vaulted hall. A meeting facility with a business centre, four meeting rooms and two boardrooms will also be available with some having direct access to private garden areas.
Health & Leisure
A sizeable health and fitness centre will offer guests a 80 square meters gym, 4 treatment rooms, sauna, steam room and relaxation area.
